The City of Shawnee and the Shawnee Fire Department share with the community their extreme pride in their fire and rescue trucks. When not using the apparatus to respond to a fire scene or to the site of a collision, they are using them as tools to assist with public fire safety and fire prevention education.
Schools, churches and other community organizations, including neighborhoods and homeowners associations holding block parties, may request a fire truck by calling at least two weeks in advance. Call (913) 631-1080 during regular business hours, 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. At the time of the call, the following information will be required:
- Event Date
- Event Times and Desired Appearance Time (Note: One Hour Time Limit)
- Contact Name and Number(s) - it will be necessary for the Shift Captain to call you back to confirm date and time
Firefighters will discuss safety information geared towards the age level of the group. They will teach both children and adults the importance of wearing seat belts, of having a fire escape plan, and when 9-1-1 should and should not be used. Truck demonstrations include explanations of equipment and tools carried on the truck and how the firefighters might be called to use them in certain emergencies.
The amount of time a truck can stay at any event is limited to approximately one hour.
Please be aware that all fire trucks remain in service during their appearance and may have to leave in order to respond to an emergency. In addition, the truck and crew may be late in arriving if they have an emergency call prior to their scheduled arrival time.
The Shawnee Fire Department regrets that due to extreme demand, fire trucks are not available for birthday parties.
