Building Permits and Inspections

As of July 1, 2019 the City of Shawnee will be enforcing the following building codes:

• 2018 International Building Code
• 2018 International Fire Code
• 2018 International Residential Code
• 2018 International Plumbing Code
• 2018 International Mechanical Code
• 2018 International Fuel Gas Code
• 2018 International Energy Conservation Code
• 2017 National Electrical Code

The Building Codes Division is responsible for ensuring that new construction on private property complies with all municipal construction codes. This Division issues building permits, reviews plans, and conducts building inspections.

Building permits are issued by the Community Development Department. Building permits may be applied for in person at Shawnee City Hall or online through citizenserve.com/shawnee. Plans prepared by a design professional are required for all buildings including single family and two family residential structures. Permit guidelines are available for commercial, grading, tenant finish, retaining walls, single family dwelling, and demolition.
