City Elections and Voting

City Elections

  • Elections are held in odd-numbered years.
  • Primary elections are held on the first Tuesday in August.
  • General elections are held on Tuesday after the first Monday in November.

Mayor and City Council Term
The Mayor is elected to a four-year term. City Councilmembers are elected to four-year, staggered terms. To get more information on our current Governing Body, head here.

Requirements for Qualified Candidates for Mayor

  • Eighteen years of age
  • A citizen of the United States
  • A resident of the City of Shawnee
  • A registered voter

Requirements for Qualified Candidates for Councilmember

  • Eighteen years of age
  • A citizen of the United States
  • A resident of the Ward
  • A registered voter 

Voter Registration
To register to vote or update a previous registration, contact one of the offices below or if you have a valid Kansas driver's license you can register on-line. You must re-register each time you change your name, address, or party affiliation for voting.
