Tidy Town

There are permanent changes to the Tidy Town program that we want to make sure you know about. In October 2020, the Shawnee City Council decided to amend the Solid Waste Municipal Code. Here’s how those changes will impact you starting January 1, 2021.

  • Residents will schedule a bulky item pickup for their household directly with their trash hauler.
  • All of the guidelines about what will be accepted curbside still apply. Some items included are listed below. You will want to double check with your trash hauler when you book your pickup to make sure the trash hauler’s guidelines have not changed.
    • Furniture
    • Mattresses
    • Most appliances except for refrigerators
    • Push lawn mowers with no fuel or oil
    • Up to 4 foot rolls of carpet (Must be securely tied and less than 50 pounds. Two rolls count as one item.)
  • Items NOT ACCEPTED curbside include:

  • Wood fencing and/or decking materials
  • Construction materials
  • Glass panels larger than four feet
  • Latex or oil-based paint
  • Tires
  • Automotive batteries, engine oil or fuel tanks
  • Hazardous materials or waste
  • Yard waste
  • Compressed gas cylinders

  • Bulk service must be scheduled and completed within the calendar year.
  • Residents will also receive a voucher in the mail in January 2021 that they can redeem for one free drop-off at the landfill. Residents are able to take a wider variety of items to the landfill. Please note this drop-off is for residential and NOT commercial. The landfill will accept one carload or pickup truck load per resident voucher.
  • There will be no drop-off site available at Johnson Drive and Renner Road.
