Community Conversation: The McCallop Family

We were honored to be able to host a Community Conversation with the McCallop family, whose roots date back to the Civil War. As early truck farmers in the Wilder area of Shawnee, they played an integral role in Shawnee’s farming history. Members of the family also founded the R.L. Bus Company, which was the first bus company in Johnson County and was used to ensure African American children had transportation to school.

Several family members took part in the retelling of the family story, sharing photographs, and giving you an inside look into the legacy that is the McCallop family.

We hope you enjoy this video that was recorded on February 23, 2021.
