City Council Approves 2022 Budget
Posted on 09/13/2021

The City of Shawnee is proud to present the 2022 budget. Staff members have been presenting the proposed budget to Council through a series of meetings that started in early May. The Governing Body voted 5-3 to formally adopt the budget at the City Council meeting on Monday, September 13, 2021.
While we continue to experience unprecedented times because of the COVID-19 pandemic, City leaders continue to make important, strategic decisions to keep Shawnee moving forward.

"I believe this is a solid budget that fully funds our needs and is geared towards providing our community with exceptional services," says Mayor Michelle Distler. "The Governing Body will continue to work together to make sure our taxpayer dollars are directed to the things they say matter most, while also making sure to keep plenty of funding in our reserves as we navigate these unprecedented times."

Here are some of the highlights of the 2022 budget.

  • Reduction of the mill levy rate of approximately .3 mills to 26.201.
  • Fire facility improvements at Fire Station 71 at 6501 Quivira and Fire Station 73 at 6805 Hedge Lane Terrace
  • Construction of Phase 2 of Monticello Road Reconstruction Project
  • Establish a temporary property tax rebate program for low income and senior homeowners
  • Six new police officer positions approved for the Police Department
  • Legal team will move in house to more efficiently consult and advise
  • An additional Mental Health Co-Responder to assist the Police Department
