Pool Plans

Your Shawnee Parks and Recreation staff is working hard to figure out the safest way to potentially open the Thomas A. Soetaert Aquatic Center for the upcoming pool season. We do not have a final decision yet because we are waiting for clarification at several different levels regarding a number of items including pool employee training, social distancing and more. We are navigating changes that are happening daily.

City staff first presented a possible plan for opening at the City Council meeting on Monday, May 11. You can view and listen to that presentation here. The portion about the pools starts at about 35 minutes into the video clip. Staff is not recommending that Splash Cove opens because of our current staffing levels and other challenges detailed during the presentation.

City staff provided a second update on the pool situation on Monday, May 26. You can view and listen to that presentation here

As soon as we have a final decision, we will be sure to communicate it to our community. We will also continue to update this page with any changes or updates as we have them. If you have questions or comments, please e-mail us.
