Crank up the accordions and head on over to the annual Oktoberfest. Hosted by the Shawnee German-American Club, this year’s celebration is set for Friday September 29 at the Shawnee Civic Centre (located at 13817 Johnson Drive) from 5:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. Admission is FREE for the whole family.
This fun and festive event will feature authentic German food and beverages, along with live music from Betty Jo Simon and the Alpen Speilers, a Bavarian polka band that has been performing in and around the Kansas City area for many years. This year we welcome Duo Diesel, musicians and entertainers from Erfurt, Germany (one of Shawnee’s three Sister Cities), who will be performing Country Western and German Beer Hall music. There will also be performances from the Blautaler Schuhplatter dancers of Kansas City and traditional German folk dancing from the authentic Bavarian Dance Troupe. Then step outside to dance and enjoy the Honky-Tonk Trio performing country western, oldies, and contemporary hits.
Children will be able to enjoy a variety of games, a moonwalk, and Kinderhall from the Shawnee Town Museum. German or not, this event is wunderbar!
