1:00 p.m.
City Hall

Stephen called the meeting to order at 1:05 p.m. Members present include: Stephen Powell, Norge Jerome, Rod Houck, Jim Courtney, Joyce Pisani, Vicki Charlesworth, Marie Sorenson and Mike Cisneros from 10/10 Taxi.

1. Welcome Marie Sorenson

Stephen introduced Marie. She told us about her background. She will be volunteering on various programs throughout the City.

2. Approve Minutes from February 25, 2016 (PAGE 1-3)

MOTION: Joyce/Jim: Approve the minutes with revisions. The motion carried unanimously.

3. Ride Reports

Stephen reviewed the various ride reports. Jim asked if we could use the grant funds for existing riders.

Stephen said the grant was written for new rides. Jim asked if Stephen was coordinating with Lisa from KCATA on the upcoming Taxi program offered by the KCATA.

Stephen said he was having coffee with Lisa next week. Jim said there may an opportunity to coordinate with Lisa and use some of our current grant funding to help pay for rides that start or terminate in the city limits.

4. New Business

Jim provided an update on the next round of 5310 Grant. He said the new grant cycle has begun. He said it should tie into what other cities and the county are doing.

Jim said the KCATA’s new taxi service is going to begin service in Johnson County because the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) has offered funds and several large cities in Johnson County (JOCO) already have the service for their residents.

Jim said there are several cities in eastern Jackson County that want a taxi service too. They are trying to get Jackson County to be the umbrella so the services can be provided to the residents of eastern Jackson County.

Jim said that because we are in the middle of the grant cycle we have to guess what a lot of these services are going to look like.

Jim said the JOCO service will be run through KCATA. Jim said the question is how do we coordinate with other Taxi programs and keep it simple.

Vicki said we don’t want to duplicate services.

Jim said Stephen was on the right track by talking with the KCATA. He said the grass roots efforts in Shawnee have been beneficial because we had strong support from the senior citizens and the disabled. He said that hasn’t been the case in other Cities.

Jim said that part of the language in the upcoming grant should show that we are using some of the funds to coordinate with a regional taxi service. He also said we should urge the KCATA to accept the CityRide (or other taxi program cards) as bus fare.

Stephen said that he spoke with Chuck Ferguson about that issue and he was open to it.

5. Old Business

Rod said he went to the Police Academy Association meeting and talked about CityRide. Several people in attendance asked about the program. He provided the flyer to Greg Collins and a reduced version was included in the Police Department newsletter.

Marie asked if anyone had contacted the grocery stores or other retailers who hire people with disabilities about the service. She wondered how those employees get to and from work. She will ask some of them if they would be willing to learn more about the program.

Marie distributed several information packets about CityRide at a pastors group. She would like to send information to them if they give her permission. The group was geared towards people who want to be more involved in spiritual needs related to disasters and community needs. She said she may talk with the Veteran’s Administration.

Stephen said the high school volunteer called doctor offices and other businesses to see if they would allow us to send promotional materials to their offices. He said it might be good for Marie to look at the list and asked if Marie would be willing to help package the information and take them.

Marie said she would help.

6. Miscellaneous Items

Stephen said the next meeting was scheduled for Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. Rod said the driver expo is June 8 at the Jewish Community Center. Rod said it would be good to let our riders know about the event.

Joyce asked if it was possible to have flyers in the cabs.

Vicki said we can send information in our e-newsletter.

7. Adjourn

MOTION: Vicki/Joyce: Adjourn. The motion carried unanimously.

The meeting adjourned at 2:15 p.m.
